kk

Last piece of gear is a 410 cab
Oh advice from here, it needs to be 4 ohm

If anyone can recommend something of quality but reasonable price it would be greatly appreciated.

I would prefer something with neo driver. my back isn't what it used to be.

Well, I just got a GK Neo 410 that I'm happy with. Best bang for the buck, IMO. $660 CDN, new.

Mesa, Eden XLT, SWR, MarkBass, (Insert boutique brand here) all make great stuff, but it all costs more. Heard a Traynor 410 that I thought sounded good, but find Traynor stuff a bit scary from past experiences. YMMV

I don't think the GK Neo410 comes in 4ohms. I would have jumped on one by now!

What amplifier do you have? Most would advise on an 8Ω cabinet to allow adding a second down the road.

I have Traynor Bassmaster 400 and a Peavy Tour210(8ohm)
4 ohm 410 was recommended as a good match for my 210

It's a special order that takes a few weeks, but they do sell them. Check out RMC Audio.

I can't say enough good things about the Ampeg SVT-410HLF it is a monster on stage, sounds great & can handle a low B with ease, and it's rated @ 4 ohms. I've seen them on the used market priced between $400-$500.

It is however heavy as heck, but it does have tip back casters & a rear mounted handle, so it rolls with ease. I don't have a young mans back either, but this cab is "manageable".

I have the older USA made version, so I can't comment on the current import version. (the Heritage Version however is USA made, and it shows in the price tag...)

The Ampeg PN-410HLF is also bad a$$, it's lighter (Neo drivers) & sounds excellent, but it's rated @ 8 ohms...

I've finally mastered the bass, does anyone know what those other 3 strings are for?

Genz Benz Uber 410. Meets ALL the op's criteria, and sounds divine, (for a 410). And yes, a 4 ohm 410 paired with an 8 ohm 210 is a better match than most.

Unlike Turtle71, I hated Ampeg 410HLF - very scooped, flubby lows and boomy. Gets lost in the hard rock mix right away. Lacks tightness and punch. I'd go GK all the way (and I did!)

I think a lot of that has to do with amp brand/type as well, I had decent tone from my SWR WorkingPro 400 through that cab, but when I like it up with my SVT4Pro it really wakes that cab up...Not flubby or boomy.

However those GK cabs are great too! I've played through a handful, and have always thought they had great tone. I just never cared for the "look" of them (I know, it's vain, but I have to like the sound and appearance of what I own/play).

I use a newer Ampeg 410HLF with a new GK700RBII. I get great control out of this rig. You can get crafty with the horn levels, as well as EQ on the amp. If you use actives, you can tweak it even further on the bass. I typically have to use this as the FOH bass as well, since we don't have subs in our PA. It handles a medium club with ease. Clean, growl, grit, I don't have any complaints.

Exactly the same combo I used. 700RB II. I just never cared about the tone I got, sounded very hollow to me, and I never cared about the tone a friend of mine got using an Ampeg SVT VR head with that cab - again, too hollow.
Even when I did hear myself in the mix, it was always meh to me, something was just lacking in the mid department. But I'm a fan of Ampeg 810 which is a different sounding cab, so, to each their own. I guess it's mostly the lack of mids that bothered me, and all that huge huge lows that I never really cared about.
I don't use tweeters much, but even that didn't help me much in the mix. Also, I often use fuzz and other pedals, so tweeter should be off most of the times for me.

I totally understand the whole "look thing" Turtle71
I'm a bit like that, but the GK 700RB II + GK NEO 412 look is one of the sexiest looking rigs to me, but everyone has their own favorite flavor so it's perfectly understandable

Again, my guitarist is very loud, and I'm sure the cab would sound better with a thinner sounding guitar - but I heard it in a funk band mix with a very thin and quiet guitar and the bass sound from 410HLF still didn't move me.

It's great that we all don't love same things, that's why there are gazillion choices, and variety is an awesome thing!

Sorry for the rant.. just spreading opinions is all.

They do. Mine's a 4 ohm. Not special ordered. I bought it off the floor.

I wonder why GK doesn't advertise it? I would have surely bought one by now. That kinda pisses me off! Does anyone know if the Neo112 will fit right on top of the Neo410??

As long as you're using flatwounds it shouldn't matter.

I'll vote for a pair of lightweight 8 ohm 2x10's. That gets it done with an especially easy load in/out. Just figure on an extra trip between the vehicle and the stage.

Thanx for all the advice guys.

Now that course has been charted, I have one more question.

How do I connect the 8 and 4 ohm cabs to my amp?
I have 2 4 ohm 1/4" and 1 speakon outputs.
Anything special to do so I don't blow up my rig?

Use the speakon whenever possible. It's so much more capable than the 1/4" phone plug. you must ensure that the Traynor is capable of running at 2Ω.
