I'd recommend the Art Pro Channel. I much preferred it over the Presonus Studio Channel. Less expensive too. It does take 2 rack spaces though.

I'm a big fan of the Peavey MAX.

It has blendable tube and solid state preamps, is rock solid, and is probably available in the $200 range...

I sold mine a couple months ago for $175, and had done a simple, switchable mod to get more gain out of the tube (if you get one and want to know about it, I can PM you the details).

The best source I've found for them is Guitar Center's Used site; you can get it shipped to your door, check it out and return it (at your LOCAL GC) within 30-days if it isn't your thing.

Thanks ill have a look--peavey max.

If I got the $30 Art tube mic pre + wtdi I could get away with under $150. I suppose the Art would be at the start of the chain, no? Tuner art wtdi comp od & nanoverb. I actually have a portacon but I need an adapter or rechargeables. If that works out I don't need the wtdi only want the wtdi.

The art tube would go at the end of you're signal chain. Those little edans don't like strong signals at all.

Right

I had one; couldn't put it passed 30% juice.

So the idea is pollute my signal w all this crap then warm it up before going into power amp. I see.

Not sure who the heck it is. Christopher is cool though. I like most of his work.

I own and love my Ampeg SVP PRO. I run it thru a Carvin HD 1500 into a pair of Hartke 4x10's. I shake the house and I'm clear as a bell.

ART make awesome preamps. I have a tubePAC , which I use with a tubeEQ, which sounds great, I have used a ART studio MP also with a boss geb-7 after it to run a powered wedge and got good results.

I have a Presonus studio channel also and really dig how these sound with bass, nice and warm.

I would look at the tech 21 rpm pre also. No tube, but tube emulation. Awesome for adding grit, getting the Ampeg sound, massive tonal variety at your disposal.

I have the mp mic preamp with a Martin portacon for eq. Into Ada power amp into Eden cab. Nice shortcut in spending.

I love it. Actually I run it off the phantom power on my ART. This let's me either have two channels, clean/dirty, different eq's, or I can make use of the extremely powerful eq combo.
