Recycle power amp wire?

Sign in to disble this ad
Is the really heavy round copper wound thing (I don't know what it is called) in broken power amps (I have 2) worth taking to the recycle place?

Don't know if you're kidding or not, but transformers are the most expensive part of the amp, so, if they're good, they're worth much more than scrap. But value is relative. I gave away a Fender MIA jazz bass once because I hated it, but some people pay for those things!

If you cannot reuse electronics, recycle them! This applies to all consumer electronics and computers.

If the amp is broken, try selling it as "spares and repairs" you'll likely have a few interested buyers.

If you can't sell the transformers whole, the scrap value of copper is around $3/lb.

I know local places (in the UK) take transformers as "motors" and they get a better price than plain scrap.

I always give my broken or no longer wanted non-valuable amps to the repair shops in case there is some odd ball choke, tube, cap, etc that might help some other guy down the road

I think they cost the most out of every part inside the amp but selling it for what its worth is another story.
