Regarding watts

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a question about matching up a head with a cab of a lower wattage. I have a Peavey head which is rated at 700 watts and I'm interested in buying a cab that is rated at 600 watts. Are there problems I should be aware of? Basically, is the head going to blow the speakers? (Or anything worse) Thanks in advance.

Not likely unless you throw it at the front of the cabinet.

as long as you understand that a cab that sounds like it's going to blow probably will, and as long as you understand that there's a volume knob on your head for a reason, you'll be ok.

+1 If the cab was rated at 1500 watts, it doesn't mean it can actually handle bass frequencies @ 700 watts.

Use your ears, speaker watt ratings mean nearly nothing.

Thanks guys. That's pretty much what I thought, but I wanted to be sure.
