Remove Oil from cab carpet

Sign in to disble this ad
I got oil in the carpet covering my combo. Set is down in the parking lot during load in where someones car must have been leaking oil.

Is there anything better than carpet cleaner to remove this oily asphalt disaster?

Dawn dishwashing liquid. It's the only brand being used to clean the wildlife down here as they say it's the only kindly that's truly effective.

Here's one more that does amazing things. - Krud Kutter - found in places like Home Depot and Lowes.

I'd recommend a good automotive all-purpose cleaner. Something like Meguiar's APC, or Four Star's White Lightning. This stuff is heavily concentrated, but does not have all of the extra surfactants and other chemical garbage that's contained in most household products such as Simple Green.

Depending on the severity of the stain, you may want to use the APC at full-strength. A few squirts, followed by agitation with a soft nylon brush...dry with a blow dryer...and then repeat as needed. You don't want to make things worse by risking the liquid going through, into the wood. You'll need to rinse at least a few times to get out the cleaner residue, and I suspect you'll then need to trim the carpeting (barber's trimmer works great for this) to remove evidence of the stains and the cleanup effort. Good luck.

Before using any liquid I would dump a pile of salt onto the stain, it should suck the oil right out. Good luck.

If you put a pile of sawdust on the stain it will suck it up.

Odorless mineral spirits. You need a non-polar solvent for oil. You could try something like sawdust to absorb the oil first; might reduce the amount of solvent you need. And after the mineral spirits, a detergent might help a little.

A lot of good ideas posted.

I'd start with Dawn dishwashing liquid first. If no result, see if you can find a product called "Oil Eater". Usually in auto parts stores, some discount stores. Amazing product I've used for years, albeit, not on speaker cab carpet.

Good luck.
