Removing a crossover?

Sign in to disble this ad
My SWR 2x15 has a crossover and a tweeter control pot.

Can I wire my speakers directly to my amplifier in jack, bypassing all that other stuff?

You can do that, but only with the two 15's. The tweeter needs the crossover, at leats for protection.

Yeah, I don't need or want the tweeter.

Recently my cab starting acting up......kind of a crackly quiet sound all of a sudden.

I'm going to check the speakers, and then wire them bypassing the crossover and tweeter.

thanks.

It may be a little bit involved.

On Eden cabs, the crossover components, PC board, and jacks are all one assembly. It's impossible to wire directly to the jacks because they're part of the PC board.

One would have to remove the jacks/PCB assembly from the metal jack plate and install new jacks.

Your SWR cab may be built similarly; I don't know.

Good to know, I hadn't really thought of that.

I guess that you can see the jack on the board and probably you see the two pins to which you should solder the speaker wire. It could not be very difficult.

You don't want the jack to remain connected to the components on the board. The crossover components could affect the signal or be damaged. So it's far easier to simply install new jacks and leave the original PCB/jack assembly alone.

Easy peasy, just de-solder the wires that are now attached to the jack and then wire the two 15's parallel(if the 15's are 8ohms) to the jack. This way the tweeter is not powered anymore (thats what the OP wants) and the 15's are now connected straight to the jack .
