Just wondered, what if I removed all the dustcaps from my speakers? Would it affect tuning or anything like that?

Dust protection for the voice coil.

Dust protection for the voice coil. | Just read that it increases efficency and volume slightly. Thought it might be worth a try

They also can stiffen the cone (albeit this effect is probably minimal) and they do affect the tone depending on the material (aluminum can add a degree of brightness for example).
So I would not recommend doing this. |

Long story short, I had to order a new speaker because I set the old one on fire.

JBL and others started fitting aluminum dust caps to woofers back in the 60's. The JBL D140F, some of the Sunn transducers, and the Fender Model 15F (actually made by EV, so it was a Fenderized version of the EVM-15L or 15B) all had aluminum dust caps. |
