Removing tweeter from a cab

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all.

So I'm finding I hate tweeters more and more each time I hear one. I have an 8x10 cab with a tweeter without a level control, which just makes it obnoxious all the time.

I'd like to remove said tweeter... Do any of you have experience or tips you can fill me in on? Will it mess up the entire impedance of the cab? Or does this seem completely not worth it?

Thanks for your time

Remove the grill then cover the front of the tweeter with a piece of black material to muffle it. Non intrusive and easily reversible in the off chance that you suddenly decide that you like to slap (I was reading your sig, is it a joke or are you saying slappers are retards?)

Just disconnect it.I dont see any problem doing that. Its only gonna sound darker thats all.
Tweeters its the same ol same ol.People turn them off disconnect them whatever but what i read alot is that most bassists hate them & get by just fine without a tweeter.
My rig is two 410 cabs with Legend BP`s.Man if a speaker ever needed a tweeter its the Legend. But i still seem to get enough treble & mid out of them its funny.Sometimes i think i should add one but then i see posts like this & just forget it.

The tweeter is likely on a highpass only filter. It's ok to just disconnect it but leave it in there just to plug the hole or screw a piece of wood over the hole so it doesn't throw off the cabinet tuning. As long as there's wiring from the jack to the 10's with no parts in between it's ok.

Haha that made me laugh. No I actually slap a lot I just don't like the clacky (Fieldy-Esque) sound that most unadjustable tweeters add. I prefer to let the sound of the drivers come through

The jaunty and retarded quote came from a friend of mine years ago who was making fun of my style.

Thanks for all the help guys. I'll be playing Operation soon on this guy.
