Repair or buy new?

My 20-year-old Carver PM-1200 power amp just crapped out. It's never been driven hard or abused in any way. Should I bother repairing it or invest in new technology?

Well in todays market? Power amps are inexpensive, as an example Peavey IPR1600 is $299. Crown has a simular offering at the same price point. Both about 7 lbs. in wieght. I own two IPR1600s and they are awesome.

I'd send it to the shop for an estimate and then at least check out some newer amps to see if you like them.

If it's the first time in 20 years, I would check to get it repaired if it's not too expensive. You already know about the reliability of this amp, you don't know about the new ones.

Hmm... Opened it up, blew out the dust with canned air, it came back to life. Would be nice to go from 21 lbs to 7 lbs, if I upgraded though!
