Repairing a speaker

Sign in to disble this ad
I've started getting a raspy noise from one of the speakers in my Schroeder 1212L, and having taken the grille off it today I've found that the dust cap seems to have become detached from the cone around about 1-2" of its circumference.

Is this something I could repair myself and if so what would I do? Just run a line of glue along the seam?

Hi.

If the dust cap is paper on a paper cone, a normal white glue will do.

I've repaired all mine with epoxy though.

Regards
Sam

Yes it is paper/paper.

I have the choice of a white glue and a cyanoacrolate glue. At first I thought the white glue would be better because it will be flexible when dry, but then I thought the bond might be stronger with the superglue. Thanks for the advice I'll give it a go now...

Superglue is what the factory uses. It takes forever to set if not in a compressed joint, so a cure accelerator is recommended.

Thanks Bill, I ended up using the super glue because I couldn't get any of the white glue out of the **** bottle...

And then I came back to the computer to look up setting times, and saw that water is an accelerant, and thought it typical that I would have to do this job in the middle of a cold snap when humidity is super-low...

Just had the bright idea of breathing on it...
