Reparing a speaker cone

Sign in to disble this ad
I recently bought an old Peavey 2x15 cab and ive found that the cone on one of the speakers has split. I bought it off a friend very cheaply because he hadnt used it in 2 years and it was just sitting in his basement.
I was wondering if there was any way of fixing this? or would i have to buy a new speaker?

thankyou for your help

Try super glue gel. Maybe a piece of rolling paper front and back to help hold it together.

That crack looks like it wants to go all the way around so I'd probably put a bead of it all the way around that rib, even if it hasn't ripped that far yet.

If it's a Black Widow, all you need is a replacement basket. Chek with your Peavey dealer.

That's the other option if you can't fix it. They should be about $80.

I'd try the glue/paper trick first. If it doesn't hold, you're only out maybe $2. I have a couple of 10's here I did that to 2-3 years ago, they've been played a couple times a week ever since and are still holding strong.

That's the best option. That crack was probably caused by a coil smack, so the cone damage is only the tip of the iceberg, the coil is probably damaged as well.

That or the cone just getting old, kinda dryrot or whatever. You can take the magnet off the basket and have a look at the coil. Look for any scrape marks, burned looking areas, out of round, etc.

Directions at the bottom page of this if you need them. http://www.peavey.com/assets/literat...s/80300801.pdf
