Replacement 12" speaker for Trace elliot 712

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys,

apologies if this kind of thing has already been covered elsewhere.

I have a Trace Elliot 712 150watt combo which i think is brilliant for the Honky type of sound I love, the only trouble is the driver is on it's way out and suffered some damage (before it reached my hands) and the cone has been repaired with Tape.

I would just like a bit of advice about a potential replacement driver, The amp will drive down to 4ohms, so I have a choice whether to put a 4 ohm speaker and release the full power into this small cab, or to use a 8ohm speaker leaving me the option to stick a compact 15" cab underneath (something like a Trace 1153).

Would it make a difference to the sound if I had one 4 ohm speaker rather than two 8 ohm?

Cheers Guys

As a rule of thumb, two cones beat one every time. If you can get a proper driver from the new Trace (Peavey) that would be the way to go. You could also contact British Audio Service http://www.britishaudioservice.com and see what they can suggest.
