replacement boards for an Ampeg B3

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello all!
I've been searching a bit and I've had no luck so far . . . my Ampeg B3 combo (that's the 1x15 version) had a blowout. I was plugged in to a different outlet than usual at the practice spot, and when I tried to plug in my DI (with the bass amp still OFF), there was a big spark and the circuit breaker blew. Turns out one outlet was wired backwards , while the other is a GFCI.
My preamp section board looks ok, but there's damage to the power board, including the plastic melted off above the circuit traces, and the traces coming off . . . I believe it's beyond repair. Is it possible to get a replacement board and pop the new board in? There's very few of these (or the other cab versions of it) for sale anywhere, but I've always loved the tone of this amp and the size.
thanks for any input!
Morgan

You could try calling Ampeg, but it's a pretty old and long-discontinued amp, so they may not have it anymore. Don't know what to tell you otherwise.

You can use hookup wire to take the place of damaged traces, not real pretty but it will work just fine. Scratch the solder mask from the undamaged trace with an X-acto blade to solder to and run the wire to the lifted pad(s).

IMO, it's repairable. you might have to hardwire wherever the traces were damaged, but the power supply section isn't very complicated so any good tech would be able to repair it.

BTW, here's the schematic for your amp.
