Question Replacement driver for Ashown 115 Mag Deep II cabinet

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi

After not using my second cab for months I plug it this evening just to check it. Dead as a doornail. Opened it up, and all the wiring and connections seems to be intact.

I'm taking the cab in tomorrow to my local tech. If he confirms that the driver is dead, can anyone suggest a suitable replacement driver?

My current setup is Ashdown Mag 300 head. 2x Mag 115 cab.

There are local Eminence and Celestion suppliers in South Africa although I don't yet know what specific models that they stock.

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Use a direct replacement for best results. The cab was designed for THAT speaker, so use another just like it.

At the risk of asking a dumb question: Did you try a different or known-good speaker cable? Even a dorked driver will often make *some* nose when you plug it in...

Did you check for a fuse?

Did you do the old battery across the speaker terminals trick?

If the speaker is indeed dead, I'd calculate the internal volume of the cab and find an appropriate Eminence Neo to replace it with.
A3015 does well in a wide range of box sizes, and will take plenty of power.

Yep, swapped out all the cables. My main gigging cab works perfectly with said cables.

Tried the battery trick as well. No noticeable driver moment either.

What i have picked up is that if I compress the driver by hand, there is this screeeching/grinding sound coming the voice coil / magnet area.

Yep....Blown!
Just comparing the exterior dimensions...it's almost identical to the famed EV TL-606, which many have retrofitted with the Em Kappalite 3015 with great success. If the port area is similar, you'll have a great cab that's even lighter than original.
