Replacement input pod for GK 700RB-II

Sign in to disble this ad
The input jack on my GK bass head recently snapped off. I have replaced a similar jack on the head before and was told that they can only be replaced with plastic pods. Does anyone know if this is true or not? I would like to put a metal pod in there so that this sort of issue does not happen again. I would even consider replacing all the pods. This is the only problem that I have had with this amp and I love the tone I get. Please let me know if it would be possible to replace with metal.

P.S. Does anyone know how to get inside the amp? Is it just a matter of taking off the knobs on the front as well as the screws? I know that taking out the screws alone does not make it possible to get inside.

How in the heck did you break one of those, dude??? Rather than replace the original jack with a metal one to withstand whatever punishment you're subjecting your amp to, you *might* want to rethink what you're doing with/to your amp...

It's possible that those jacks are plastic to provide isolation from the metal chassis - and changing to a metal jack might not be a good thing - but that's just a WAG...

Getting inside the 700rb-II isn't difficult at all - just remove the top cover screws, and you're in there - but I can't remember how accessable the input jack is, once you're in there...

I let my roommate borrow it and it broke while transporting it. Both times it's snapped it was not me who did it. Either way I would like to replace them if possible but if not I will leave it as is. Thank you

You might want to spend $50 on a used rack case, then - it'll surely save you some grief...

Congrats on a great purchase, btw - those are great amps...

The RB series use an input/preamp board. All 4 1/4" inputs (input, send, return, tuner out) are surface mount plastic modules. They aren't the usual 1/4" treaded post type connectors held in place with a nut. I believe they connect to the board with 4 solder joints.

Thats not a bad idea, I'm in between jobs right now though so that will have to wait.

Agreed! Unless you recognize the actual part as a standard it's the obvious first step.

If you're still under warranty (2 years) GK might fix it.

It's not still under warranty. I will contact GK when I am ready to fix it, I was just browsing online to see if anywhere else had them. Thank you all for your help, as always talkbass comes through again!
