Can anyone recommend a good replacemant tube for a Hartke 3500 head I just picked up? I was looking at some JJ's and Groove tubes but don't know if there is a particular one that might be better than others?

I would use a tube that doesnt have a bright top end. I had good luck with chinese tubes in mine. Others have reported that a sovtek 12ax7LPS are great for these amps because they are a darker sounding tube. Just make sure that it is the long plate version if you use the sovtek because the regular sovtek's which come stock in them are a tad bright and not the best sounding tube for that amp. Never tried the sovtek long plate myself in there but according to others they are the best tube for that amp.

Thanks, I've heard JJ's are good too, but I'll try the Sovtek first.

I picked up one of these heads last year and felt the 12ax7 was too weak and thin.
Many people recommended to me to get a JJ in place of the ax7, which is what I did and it sounds great now; phat, warm and powerful. It is now a great back up to my Bassman head and does a very passable impression of the Fender.

go for the JJ!!

When I had one of these amps, I changed the original Sovtek for a GT, and I didn't hear any difference. And I ran the tube preamp always...

Do you by any chance remember which JJ preamp tube you got?
