Replacement tube suggestions for a Peavey AlphaBass

Sign in to disble this ad
Like the title says, I'm interested in suggestions for tubes for my "new to me" Peavey AlphaBass... I'm thinking about going with JJs, but would be happy to entertain any suggestions...

In my experience the Peavey equipment is optimzed for low/mid grade tubes... try something chinese... or soviet if you dont like rice.

After checking tubes and burning in, I have had people be AMAZED at the sound of a chinese tube...And I have had MULLARDS TRADED to me for putting cheap tubes in...lol

My favorite tubes are soviet Military grade, you can gt old stock or new. They are numbered differently but interchange. The mlitay Tolerances are closer, so out the window with all that "matched" tube balogni that costs more... You can test 10-12 tubes in a row, and get numbers close enough that any two of the 12 could run paired.

The diff in sound is how the tube inducts. Not the name brand stamped on it.

By the way, how's the pre/post on your amp work out? Mine overdrives past pre 6-7 and post 6-7. However, I maxxed the 80 hz and ran it on 6/6 and it shook the whole house. I can't figure out why it has so much to give but gives up so early unless you tweak it out...
