Replacing the 12 in an Epifani T112

Sign in to disble this ad
I like the tone but could lose some weight. I was taken by the sound of the UL Series 1 cab's but heard a lot of static about the Series 2's as not being as warm... So calling Epifani and getting the Series II driver isn't really that attractive an option...

with that in mind ...

Have you done it ?
What driver did you use ?
How did it turn out ?

Thanks, mal

Well here's my two cents. Personally I've heard the series II 12" cab and did not see it as not being warm. I really loved the sound of it actually. Though I'm not sure if the drivers are particually different in either series but rather the material construction of the cabinet itself. I can't confirm that but I'm sure some one of the guys like Kjung who I believe made some clarification on this subject in a past post could chime in. Now I do use a T210 with old B&C drivers that I love but use currently a PS410 (original drivers) that IMO is a warm and round sounding cabinet and has that typical Epifani low end but is a little different in the midrange voicing. That being said the PS112 driver which is ceramic is IMO a warmer more classic sounding driver and a great overall sounding driver and alot of people have praised it. I personally love the sound and I do believe it is a bit lighter than the B&C driver. That T210 is heavy!...all in all the performance series drivers are great and probably would work for what your looking for. I do believe they are overall lighter than the B&C though certainly not as light as the UL's. Hope this helps and again all IHMO/IME.

I have the UL112 -S1. From what Nick told me, (as I recall) the series II 12's sound a little more like the NYC series. I've also owned the NYC or T112 box. To my ear, the difference is that the T112 has a bit more low mid grunt, or push. The UL112 is smoother and maybe just slightly lower. Maybe.

I think the stock UL series II would be a good idea.
