Replacing 69 SVT fan

Sign in to disble this ad
it appears the time has come to replace the 41 year old fan in my svt. i've tried to put it off, but i don't think i can. it takes forever to come on, and now i have to whack it a few times to keep it from being noisy. fliptops has this fan:

but i wanted to know if anyone knew of other fans that might be better. thank you in advance!

Hmm. Seems that any 4" box fan should work. If you can get to a surplus electronics house and run through some to select the quietest one. I kept an extra around, wired with a wall plug when I was using SVT, just as a backup. (still wall hanging in in my shop) Have you tried cleaning the fan shaft with some tech/lube spray? The one fliptops sells looks good though, and would be tried and true.

41 years; fantatstic
I would think that Gerold would be the guy to check with
I would think that as long as the replacement puts out the same (or more) CFM of air you'll be A-OK
Good news is that the new fans are quieter at the same CFM level; bad news is that we porbably won't get to see if it will go another 41 years!

i replaced the one in my '69. IIRC, i got it from Fry's Electronics. i think it was around $15-$20. its quieter than the original ever was, but it looks just like it and it fit perfectly.

Jimmy, punch in 'Rotron fan' into ebay there are loads, this is similar being 3 blade, but then there are many factors like rpm and voltage to look for. cgi.ebay.com/COMAIR-ROTRON-FAN-MUFFIN-MU2B1-New-/190396835839?cmd=ViewItem&pt=BI_Control_Systems_PL Cs&hash=item2c548927ff

I have a look now and again for an original as I need the black grill part for my 70, unless anyone has one here

you know, i probably should replace it, but i got to looking for fans and i just don't get excited about replacing the fan. it does work, just has a couple problems. maybe a good cleaning is all it needs. hope i can find the 3 in 1 oil.
