Replacing the speaker board on a cab

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a 115 cab with some damage on the speaker board. The board itself is chipboard so I don't mind replacing with good plywood. I think the rest of the cab is plywood I haven't pulled the speaker yet to see what it looks like inside. Any tips or tricks on getting the old one off before i dig into this and do something permanent?

The problem is that you probably have to dig into it to figure out how to get the old baffle off.

thanks. It's an old peavey 115bx bw, is it likely glued in with no hope of recovering the old board for a pattern or is it stapled and caulked or something else? I like a little DIY so I'll just roll up my sleeves, pull out a screwdriver and have a go!

Oh, thanks. I couldn't tell what was under the carpet. Actually, the baffle board is more like chipboard, not particle board. Particle board would double the weight.

According to the specs for the bx, the cab is plywood.

The damage on the baffle board is cosmetic so I'm leaving it.

I discovered, after drilling for casters, the 115BX cabinet actually is made of plywood. Only the baffle board is chipboard.

The carpet has a funky smell that I can't get rid of. I was thinking about recovering with some heavy duty white canvas I've got laying around. Thoughts? I would seal the canvas with varnish or similar so I'm not worried about stains or spills. I use this as a base for a BAM 210 combo so I'd probably put some protective boards on top to keep the wheels/feet of the BAM from ruining the canvas as well.

I think white with black trim would look alright, certainly different from the norm.
