Replacing Speaker - EV TL606

Sign in to disble this ad
I have an unloaded EV TL606 speaker cabinet that I would like to get fitted with a speaker. I know I can't just put any speaker in there, but don't know enough about the science behind cabinet design to choose one suitable! From what I have heard from folks is the Eminence legend CA154 speaker is a good drop in speaker for this cab. Although the sound of this speaker fits my tone, I'm a bit dubious that it will sound any good. Does anyone know if a) this speaker will not sound like a piece of crap in this cab, or b) know of any tested drop in replacements?

I've heard on here that the neo Eminence 3015LF is a decent replacement.

I've got my TL606 cab loaded with an EVX-155.

The Eminence Kappalite 3015 speaker works well in those cabs. For a cheaper option, the Eminence Kappa Pro 15A is good but not as good.

Also, I suggest adding some matress foam on the inner surfaces if the cab isn't damped already.

The LF version should only be used if it's crossover'd with a mid driver. That's what it was designed for.

Not the 3015LF.....you would need a midrange driver to pair it with.
Instead, get the 3015. It has extended frequency response (upward).

I woudn't put a CA154 into anything smaller than 9cu.ft unless you want the boom.. I second the 3015. Legend CB15 might be worth a modeling checksee.. might have to modify the vent, fortunately that cab makes it somewhat easy

Has anyone tried a Delta, or even Beta 15 in that cab? Those drivers seem to get love in older "not big enough" type cabs.

Thought the EVX series were subwoofer drivers?

I just picked up one loaded with Eminence Kilomax Pro15A. Talk about boomy! There are no high's at all and the mids aren't good either. My replacement 3015 can't get here fast enough!

Thanks for the responses guys. I think I will go for the Kappa 15A; money is a bit of an issue unless I can find a cheap 3015 somewhere, or another suitable replacement

The only 15Ls I have found here (Australia) are refurbished ones from a speaker repair centre. The guy quoted me $550 for it which is a bit out of my price range!
