researching cabs for shuttle 9.0

Sign in to disble this ad
cheers, all!

this is my first post/question on here. ive recently started playing bass (crossing boundaries from keys, heh heh) in a metal band and have acquired a shuttle 9.0. we are very loud. anyway, this is all fairly new to me and ive been looking for a good cab setup to utilize the 9.0 to its full potential. we play all sizes of venues and knowing how sound guys and guitarists like to cover up keys and play as loud as possible, i assume the same holds true for bass. i need something where there will be no question. probably, the best deal for the price ive found thus far would be 2 ashdown abm 410t's running in parallel. i guess my question is: does anyone else have any suggestions about a better setup for the price and power?

thank you very much for your time.

I'm going to take a wild flyer and suggest a highly efficient cab made by a reliable maker like....Genz-Benz. One of the real keys is: EFFICIENT. A few more dB of output makes a speaker much louder.

Their Uber-Bass GB 410T-UB-8 is 103 dB efficient....and it weighs only 72 pounds.

I've been using a Shuttle 9.0 with an Ashdown MAG 410T Deep cab and its not a great pair, imo. Their site calls it SPL 101dB 1W @ 1m. I'm also using an SWR 2x10 Golight cab with it and their specs say SPL 105 dB SPL @ 1W1M. Even being a smaller cab, I feel like I'm getting a more out of the SWR. My plan is to get rid of this Ashdown and get a 4ohm Golight 4x10 cab (56lbs) to get more out of the Shuttle.

If you are ok with two 4x10 cabs, then I bet a pair of SWR Golight 8ohm 4x10 cabs would be nice with the Shuttle 9.0. I'm not a fan of the GB cabs myself, but many are and I bet they would sound nice as well.

Sensitivity is not just a number. It's meaningless without knowing:
-displacement limited power handling
-true sensitivity across the spectrum

Sensitivity is an average, or measured at 1khz, that can be boosted by huge midrange peaks which no one wants to listen to.

I would suggest getting an 8 ohm medium sized cab - a 1x12, 1x15, 2x10 or 2x12, and getting an identical one if that is not enough volume.

Frankly impossible with any driver in existence in a non-horn-loaded enclosure - even when discounting reproduction of content below 100 Hz. I see SWR is still practicing blatant specsmanship.

Really? I'd recommend a bit more to start. But that's just me.

Ok. I'd recommend having a meeting about stage volume before you buy cabs, and make sure everyone is on the same page: Insanely loud stage volume makes your sound guy pissed and your vocals sound like crap.

Got the Marcus Miller in tonight and think I gave myself a concussion. This thing slams with the Shuttle 9.0. A pair of 8ohm Golight 4x10s and the Shuttle 9.0 would be monstrous I bet.
