| restoring some ampegs to their former glory

Well I wanted to kick off the conversation before I start this project because on here always has good suggestions for things I forgot. Ive been trying to buy up a couple good US ampegs before they are too hard to get. I think Ive settled on my setup. An 6x10 and 2x15. Yea I know thats alot of amp but I play in a really loud band. Just the 6x10 wasnt really cutting it. Ive been playing the 6x10 for many years, watching it get pretty torn up in the process. When I got the 2x15 it already had some war wounds. Structurally they are perfect, soundwise they are perfect, just some cosmetic stuff. I am planning on:
1. Retolexing both cabs so they look new. I thought about getting them rhinolined, but im just a sucker for that ampeg look. I have one, and will be getting another tuki case so that should protect them once they are all fixed up.
2. There are some things on my 6x10 that just plain make sense that are not on my 2x15. The kick plate and the slide rails are definately going on there. I couldnt find either on any ampeg parts sites. I found a very informative diy thing on here on how to build the rails. No Biggie. I think im gonna have a machine shop make me one of the kick plates to match my other one.
3. Someone ripped off the white piping around the 2x15, again shouldnt be a big deal and I found some online.
4. Im debating putting the spring handles on the 2x15 cuz i use them so much on my 6x10. Does this make sense? I havent moved this cab around much so maybe thats a stupid idea.
Any other suggestions? Im trying to make them functional as well as make them look original. I know some of these things arent orignally on the 2x15 but it makes my life alot easier. I appreciate the responses in advance. |
