Still everybody has their thing. If you can rock it, rock it. | I'm not a huge technophile. I'm just trying to solve space and weight problems. Personally, I can't wait until you can wear the rig around your waist and sound like a jet taking off. I try to follow the wisdom of an engineer friend of mine who once advised me thusly: Accept EVERY mechanical advantage. Saves toil and trouble, from what I've ever seen.

I'll never own another one. Never, ever, ever. They're too heavy, too big and too much of the output is at ankle level. I'm keeping the 212, at least for now. It's 50 pounds--not great, but a lot better than 75. I'm going to try out a 15 at 40 pounds, see how I like that.

The big cab still performs, but it's totally optional.

As 410's go it sounds quite good, despite being an old Tube Works cab with ports directly behind the speakers. But man, they are no fun to move around. An 810 actually moves easier for me, except for stairs

I get my GK MB200 by week's end. It will be fun to try out.
I did really like that Markbass Littlemark 800 I tried this weekend.

In any event, I've talked to some great folks on here about amp ideas.
Many have suggested looking at micro amps. I think this is a great idea, and may allow me to pack my amps in my rolling suit case.
My idea:
Sell my amp, once serviced and working 100%
Sell my Korg DTR-1
Sell my Furman PL-Plus
Sell my SKB 8 space rack
Buy a Genz Benz 9.0 Shuttle or Streamliner
Buy a GK MB200 (backup)
Buy a pedal tuner and add it to my board.
This would save me weight and the bulk of the rack head.
Is there anything I should be cautious of before considering such a bold move? | That is exactly what I did! I dumped my rack in favor of going all lightweight. I use a Streamliner and I have a Korg Pitchblack tuner and a Markbass Compressore pedal. In fact I keep the Compressore on top of my cabinet next to the Streamliner. The only thing I have on the floor is the tuner.
As far as the tone between the Shuttle and the Streamliner it depends on what you want. Shuttle more Modern - Stramliner more Vintage. Not that either can't do the other, but that's what they are geared for.

I am forced to play a bass that is shaped like an axe and wear spandex! Everything is for "show" in this band. Thus why I need to keep a "stack".

| | | | The world needs two more of a good thing.
Baltic Birch and Genz Benz.
I have been rethinking my rig. I have my NEOX Combo and an external 112T, looking for another so I can leave one at each Band Location and combine them for larger gigs and when I create my Control Rack Based upon Entwistles final Gear.
The main object is really to get a whole bunch of 12AX7's together and having a Tube Choir.
If the nut Guitard in Knoxville Fired me for being too loud with my little 2x12's against his three stacks, 850w driving 4x12's should be a State Industrial Code Violation, probably something about improper disposal of explosives.
Keep your rack for performances. Get the smaller rig for backup parts and rehersals. Let the Show be the show. Empty the drivers out of one of the cabinets and turn the amp up a bit more.
Since you have the GK, you are done. Mount it in a drawer so you can whip it out and take it home at will, but is handy on stage. That will fill 3U. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
