Return my SVT-CL for the new V4-B RI?
I've had my SVT for a few weeks now, and I'm quite happy with it. When I' not moving it. This new V4-B is half the weight and I'm not really sure if the 200w of headroom is worth the 40 lbs and $300. Before I go through the whole rigamaroo of ordering one and exchanging mine (local GC doesnt have one), I'd like some opinions.. So how would the tone of these compare? Will less wattage give me more of that tube tone at lower volumes? You think any place that would need 300w would be better off through its PA anyway? Or is it worth it to have that much clean headroom?
I'm playing through a SVT 610 with a FSR Jazz w/ DiMarzio Model J's.
I have an SVT-VR and a V4B...and they are remarkably similar in tone.
I could probably do 80-85% of my gigs with the V4B, no problem...
but I do like having the extra headroom of the SVT. but then again, I usually have help moving it.
if it were 'all me', then I'd probably go with the V4B all the time, hehe.
but yeah, as far as tone comparison, they are very comparable, and yes, the v4B does attain that 'dreamy tube creaminess' sooner than the SVT does...
Can't say a single bad thing about my new V4B. Can't say a bad thing about my new Heritage SVT-CL either! That's a real tough question that only you can answer. As for me, I'm keeping both and will be using both as I see fit.
