Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys! I just bought A GK 1001RB II head, and would like to know if it is possible to rewire the Mesa PH 212 so i can use the biamp function of the head? If yes how can I do it.

I have just the head so far, I still didnt buy a cab. I want a 212 with NEO spekers. Coments, suggestions are welcomed. thanks

No, you cannot, but GK makes cabs that are designed to be used with their biampable heads. This would be the better option, IF you really want to biamp. Most bassists don't biamp, but rather run a bass amp, (even one like yours), through a full range bass cab alone. Besides, the GK's biamp is only for the tweeter, except for one model, (the 800?)- so you'd be wasting your time trying to biamp with the Mesa cab.

I'm pretty sure you can install a 4 pole female speakon into the cab, wire the woofers to +1 and -1, wire the tweeter to +2 and -2, and make sure you disable, disconnect any existing crossover wiring inside the cab. Or, you could save yourself the hassle and not screw with the resale value of the Mesa by just buying a GK 212 neo.

The GK biamp system is designed to work with their cabs; it expects to drive the tweeter at 5KHz and above.

Most woofers won't get anywhere near 5K, and most tweeters are designed to pick up at 2.5K or 3.5KHz. Using the GK amp would cross the tweeter at 5K, so you'd have the big hole.

Bottom Line: Don't expect this to sound good on a non-GK cabinet.

Maybe i will return it and get a Mark Bass Little Mark tube 800 so i dont have to worry about biamp.
