RH 450 with 8 Ohm Cabs

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi Guy´s,

i´m using a SWR Goliath III 8 Ohm with my brandnew RH450 , but now i´ve got some questions:

Power Rating is 450 watts/4 ohm, but how much is the power rating with 8 ohm cabs?
How can i achieve 4 ohm?
How can i achieve max Power w my goliath III
Is there a big (Sound) difference between 4 and 8 ohm?

What do you think?

Thanx for your reply,
jaco

Power rating of most solid state heads at 8ohms is about 60% of the 4ohm output... so probably around 280 watts or so.

The only way to get to 4ohms for you is to either add a cab or buy a 4ohm version of the cab you have.

The difference with a large cab like the GIII that can actually use the additional power is a bit more volume (not huge), and a more open, uncompressed low end. It all depends on how loud you need to be. If it sounds good, and is loud enough for you, don't even bother thinking about it!

That should be a great match-up.

You would want a second 8ohm cab, and make the connection in the standard parallel (which means daisy chaining the two cabs together).

That being said, remember, pairing an 8ohm 210 with an 8ohm 410 will result in the drivers of the 210 each getting twice the power as each driver in the 410. This isn't a problem, per se, but it isn't optimum.

I would again not worry a ton about running your head at 8ohms... it should be fine, and the wonderful limiting design that TC uses results in that head putting out some nice volume and low end at its lower power setting.

I would get on a few gigs before I spent any more money. The TC power rating is VERY conservative, and the RH450 wumps harder than many amps with much higher 'marketing power spec' ratings.

Hey Ken can you send me a pic as to how i should have my RH450 connected to 2 RS210 cabs, i also have an RS112, but for some reason i think the way i am plugging things in is wrong as the sound is not as loud as i would expect, grant i have not turned up the volume fully, but my gut tells me connections are not correct, thanks in advance, i tried sending a PM but you have the PM Option off.

Hey Ivan! There really is only one way to do it... speakon from the head to one cab, and then speakon from that cab to the second cab. You should hear quite an increase in low end and a touch of increase in volume when you connect the second cab, and on the gig, when you push it, you will get a LOT more volume.

The only thing that can go wrong is if, for some reason, one cab is wired backwards at the factory. This results in the cabs being 'out of phase', but you would know it immediately... your volume and low end would drop to almost nothing, since the speakers would be cancelling each other out.

You should be fine, and you won't really hear the full, glorious impact of doubling drivers and almost doubling power until you are on the gig and pushing the rig a bit.

Bumping this ol' thread up....

How have people found gigging the 450 with a 410 8Ω cab?

I'm currently considering either the 750 or picking up a used 450. I would never need to gig with more than a 410 cab and am looking at picking up an Ampeg 410he - I love it's controlled low end.

Im looking for info on which type of Neutrik Speakcon connections/cable is best for this set up. 2 or 4 pole? RH750 2xRS212

I'm pretty sure that the RH 450 into 8 Ohms is more than enough. How loud do you guys play?
A 410 is a lot of surface area, just lift it one or two feet and then you'll be okay 'til heaven.
