RH450 and recording

Curious if anyone has been using their RH450 for recording in the studio (or at home). I did a few recordings recently with a pure DI into a presonus fire studio tube (10 tracker) and I was a little disappointed.

This _may_ be suited for the recording forum, feel free to move it - but my questions are a bit more specific to the RH450 head (and recording).

I currently only ran a pre switch from the digital out and I found the bass to be very muffled and quite "boomy" if thats the choice of words I could put around it. I play a Fender Jazz with EB Slinkies pretty much flat with slightly boosted mid and cut highs, its a fairly tight/punchy tone I get from the bass so I was expecting my recording to sound relatively close but it just wasn't at all.

I am curious to see if anyone has had great success recording with these heads?
