Question RH750 noise issue

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi everyone - I'm new to this forum, but been following for a while.

So here is my first post :-)
I recently purchased a lovely set of TC Electronic RH750 head amp and a RS210 cab.
After unpacking and plugging it in, I noticed it does create some rather loud ventilation noise. It constantly sounds like a poorly silenced PC (the ventilator does not go into idle mode at all) .

Now, I double checked on the RH450 unit I played at the store and it doesn't have the same issue - it was perfectly silent. This is rather puzzling.
I know head amps are supposed to wentilate like that form time to time, but I would not expect such a difference between RH750 and RH450.

Anyone owning a RH750 having the same issue? Or rather - is it an issue, or is it normal?

Thanks in advance

Mine is the same way. I never thought of it as an issue, everything has seemed to be normal to me.

The fan might be a bit loud perhaps, is the RH450 the same except that it isn't always on?

To be honest, I'm not sure how the fan on RH450 sounds like - I was playing quite loud at the store and can't remember. The only thing I am sure of is that, unlike my (and your) RH750, it is perfectly silent after being turned on. The fan probably kicks in after reaching a certain temperature.

I do notice on mines the fan noise is a bit louder than my previous amp, but I'm assuming it's normal because everything seems to function as it should.

Interesting... I have one on the way and am not a fan of fans (unless there is enough heat to warrant it being on). Often I play with headphones at home and this could be something that grates at me.

I take it by the responses that this is "as designed", so we'll have to see when it gets here.

I have (more expensive) amps with louder fans, but it's never been an issue at gigs. With headphones on, you shouldn't hear it at all. It's not coming through the audio path. My RH750 is noticeable if you're standing right next to it and not playing. But once the music starts, it's not an issue.

It's exactly as Munjibunga said. Its not an issue once the music starts, especially at gigs. And in headphones you wont hear a thing too.

I am just surprised that there is such a difference between RH450 and RH750 in that matter.

Rh450 appear to be way quiet typically ... And 750 seem be louder cuz of fan running at higher RPM.. No worries

I've noticed it's louder and TC have helped me with my queries on it. It's basically exactly what I thought it would be....much higher power/more headroom in the same size amp therefore it needs to stay cool.

The 750's fan is on all the time--unless you plug headphones into the headphone jack, at which point it shuts off the fan. I've never found the fan noise to be a problem, it's easily masked by all the other music being made when I'm playing it.

Excellent, the fan shuts off on headphones! After that, of course you'll never notice it.

I have a 450 and when I was demoing the 750, I noticed that the fan is definately audible, where as my 450, well I didn't even know it had a fan for a number of months!
