Rig Idea

Sign in to disble this ad
rack 1-
(3 space Anvil-type)
> PL-1
> perforated spacer(for ventilation)
> Alembic FX1, tube pre

rack-2
(again, 3 space Anvil-type)
> perforated spacer
> Carvin TS100 tube power amp

Bergantino NV610

After all that...

rack 3-
> PL-1
> perforated spacer
> another pre

rack 4-
> perforated spacer
> 800W tranny power amp(hopefully switching?)

Berg AE410

I realize this is quite contrary to what gets discussed here, but I already have a mini rig(LMII/Berg HT112). I'm thinking this could prove a LOT of fun as I can swap from tube to tranny power easy besides swapping pres.

At this rate I'd just get an 8 space rack and put everything in there.

Not sure what the PL1s are but if they're power conditioners they're a waste of space.

I hear ya, but I've got the PL's from back in the 90's. 1 large rack would be cool for my li'l studio, and I gave that a lot of consideration, but I was thinking separate pre/power racks for easier load in/out(much easier to fit if I get a different type of car down the road...pun intended), and I'm not interested in hauling around both power amps or additional pres.

If you get a light rack and ditch the wasted power conditioners, an 8 space, I think you'd have an easier loadin than two separate racks (one pre, and one power). Just plug into what you intend to use.

SKB makes some very nice lightweight racks, some even rolling. A rolling shock rack would be ideal for the tubes.

Yeah...that's the only reason I mentioned something Anvil-like...was for the tubes. I'll look at the rolling shock racks.

Too much rack, not enough gear.

I understand your concept, but it seems a bit counter-productive to me....

Anvil will do absolutely no good with tubes; with racks, unless they are shockmounted, any outside concussion passes right inside. Shockmount or just get the lightest possible.

Back in the early 00's, I did what most people do- I have a rack and 2 cabs(2x10" & 1x15"). I agree, from a purely logistical standpoint, that this is more counterproductive than a typical setup such as that. I'm simply betting that a setup like this might prove more fun to play around with.
