Rig remodelling?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all, I have some advice rig wise, and I know you guys love to pipe in on all issues gear related, so here goes.

I used to use a fender bassman 250/115 combo for basically everything,I was playing in a larger (7+ person) funk band, and thus bought a genz benz shuttle 6.0 and swr 4 ohm 4x10 golight for use in that group. I kept the bassman 250, and let the keyboard player in that group use it. I've just left that group, so thus have a 250 watt 115 combo amp that I don't use, and a 4x10 cabinet that is, at this point, overkill. My only other gig right now, is a nearly acoustic jazz duo, and due to other circumstances, I no longer have a car to carry a big 4x10 and an upright bass around with me. That setup would look silly in an intimate supper club anyhow. So what I'm asking you guys is, should I sell the 1 15, get a lightweight neo to pair with the shuttle 6? Should I sell the 4x10, or keep it for when I get another loud gig going, and a car? It's currently being stored at my father's house, about an hour away, as it doesn't really fit in my smallish apartment. I do plan to start another funk/soul band once the dust settles from this last project, so keep that in mind too. So what's the most cost effective, gig ready solution, given the resources I have, and my gigging situation at the moment? Thanks for reading this long winded post!

"Doesn't fit in my smallish apartment." Bah, humbug! You should see my music room/office! Empty equipment boxes, guitar cases and my small PA (two 18" subs, two 12" tops and a 24U case) on one side, My cabs, amps, pedalboard and two basses on stands on the other, and my computer desk in the middle on the far wall. In a room 10' wide I've got about a 4' "aisle" in the middle. There is ALWAYS room for more gear!

That said: I'd keep the 410 for the future unless you really need the money now. I'd sell the combo amp and get a nice neo 210 for an easy load in/out. Shuttle 6.0 and a 8-ohm 210 is a nice combo. If you REALLY need the money, sell the 410 and the combo amp. You may be able to trade in the 410 towards a 210+ cash back for you.

Yep...I'd sell that combo, hang on to the 410 for future gigs that require it and get a Neo 210 or single 12 cab.

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. So what would be some suggested 2x10 or 1x12s to look out for? Preferably something light and cost effective that's able to handle the 375 or so watts the shuttle 6 puts out at 8 ohms. And @ mikeddd, I could definitely fit a 4x10 in here somewhere, but it's really a question of if my lady would put up with it, which she probably wouldn't. The place is already filled with my piano, my electric basses, my upright bass, and my guitars, so trying to convince her that a 4x10 i'm not using would really "tie the room together" didn't really work.

410 as piano stool? Throw a quilt over it and it's a coffee table. I'm married...I could make stuff up all day long. I feel your pain, fettbass.
