I have read so much on this forum about the Markbass stuff and I just don't get it. I have played just about all of the Markbass heads and amps I can find locally and they sound good, but everybody acts like they are the greatest thing since canned beer. I will put my old hot rodded tube amps up against them for tone any day!

Yeah, I know they are lighter to carry, but for a thick, warm vintage tube tone you cannot get from solid state, I will hump a bit more weight. As for recording tone, solid state just can't hold a candle.

So yeah, there is retubing, but for the tone, I don't mind. I have a Gallien Kruger solid state for practice also. It just cannot give me what the tube heads provide.

K. Just had to get that out of my system. I was just Markbass'ed to death. Not being a hater, just old school I guess.

I don't like canned beer, so I don't get it either.

I'm not a fan of canned beer, but I am a fan of what Markbass has given the bass gear world. Innovation is a good thing.

So, you like 'hot rodded' tube amps, and you then don't like very clean, transparent solid state amps. Makes sense. What does this have to do with a particular brand

For those of us who prefer solid state amps, the tone, size, weight, and price/value of the MB heads (especially when the LMII first came out... set the industry on its ear IMO) is, well, even better than bottled beer!

i'm a big tube nut and i used to own a couple markbass little mark amps. to my ears, for an all-ss amp, they're very tubey sounding. but you're right that it's not the same as the real thing. but it's ok if you don't like them...really it is. so go relax.

Well, we haven't had a "I need to slag something to justify my own tastes" posts since yesterday so I guess it's about time we had another.

Jerk

You like what you like and MarkBass isn't it. No biggie. There are plenty of folks who do like them.

That's true.

I was feeling pretty high and mighty for enjoying my SS amp so much more than the all-tube amp at the studio where I rehearse... I'm glad someone could come in and tell me how wrong I was/am.

Why do humans expose themselves to things they know they do not like, ( certain threads for ex.) and then go an a complaint spree expressing how they don't like it. Humans are funny.

I HAD a Markbass amp and cabinet, I had it for a whole weekend before I decided it wasn't for me. It clipped out all the time and the tone was so-so.

I can say the light weight aspect of it was nice, but that alone did not out weigh (pun not intended) the lack of performance.

I appreciate that vast variety of gear currently on the market. It may not all suit me but what does not suit me may be perfect for someone else.

I'm not trying to "come down" on anyone for their personal choices... but seriously, what is up with people using mayo on their submarine sandwhiches. I mean, yeah, hot sauce doesn't have the fat, but for what mayo provides it's a no-brainer. People talk about hot sauce like it's the greatest thing... HOW CAN YOU CHOOSE HOT SAUCE OVER MAYO?

Sorry I just had to vent...

For me, the Markbass color scheme and logo are a deal killer. Garish. Yuch.
