I have read so much on this forum about the Markbass stuff and I just don't get it. I have played just about all of the Markbass heads and amps I can find locally and they sound good, but everybody acts like they are the greatest thing since canned beer. I will put my old hot rodded tube amps up against them for tone any day!
Yeah, I know they are lighter to carry, but for a thick, warm vintage tube tone you cannot get from solid state, I will hump a bit more weight. As for recording tone, solid state just can't hold a candle.
So yeah, there is retubing, but for the tone, I don't mind. I have a Gallien Kruger solid state for practice also. It just cannot give me what the tube heads provide.
K. Just had to get that out of my system. I was just Markbass'ed to death. Not being a hater, just old school I guess. |

| I don't like canned beer, so I don't get it either.

For those of us who prefer solid state amps, the tone, size, weight, and price/value of the MB heads (especially when the LMII first came out... set the industry on its ear IMO) is, well, even better than bottled beer!

You like what you like and MarkBass isn't it. No biggie. There are plenty of folks who do like them.

I was feeling pretty high and mighty for enjoying my SS amp so much more than the all-tube amp at the studio where I rehearse... I'm glad someone could come in and tell me how wrong I was/am.

I can say the light weight aspect of it was nice, but that alone did not out weigh (pun not intended) the lack of performance.

I mean, yeah, hot sauce doesn't have the fat, but for what mayo provides it's a no-brainer. People talk about hot sauce like it's the greatest thing... HOW CAN YOU CHOOSE HOT SAUCE OVER MAYO?
Sorry I just had to vent...
