Rotate the DI on a GK MB210?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anybody that's got one of the new GK combos and used the DI knows that there's a minor problem with it. The way the DI jack is installed, it's nearly impossible to get a finger in there to release the cable. I use a key or the end of an instrument cable to get in there and that works, but frankly it's annoying.

So has anybody taken one apart and rotate the DI jack? I'm pretty handy, but before I jump in I thought I'd ask if anyone else has already looked at this and can give any pointers on what's involved.

Looking at pictures of it, I don't see the typical bolts that hold an XLR jack in place. If they were there, it would be a simple matter to rotate it 180 degrees. I'd just open 'er up and have a look-see. It might be pretty simple. Or not.

I wouldn't be surprised if that XLR is soldered directly to a board inside, this would complicate the mod. I'd imagine its doable but it could void your warranty messing around in there... Sure seems like GK should of foreseen this and simply installed the jack around the other way around.

Maybe GK has came up with a solution, have you tried contacting them about this. (heck if enough people complained maybe they'd consider correcting the situation under warranty or at least on future models)

Probably not the best solution but you could use one of these: http://www.google.com/products/catal...d=0CFYQ8wIwAw#
Or just mabey just leave a super short mic cord in it.

Just use a short umbilical, similar in function to Anderbass's suggestion. This is exactly what the above post finished with!!!!!

Dang! Nevermind!!!!!!

A short little adaptor or umbilical would work. The problem is I'd be worried about leaving it plugged in during transport - I can just see something banging into the adaptor and breaking something on the amp. Of course I could just unplug it before moving the amp, but that defeats the whole purpose!

If you disabled the adaptor or umbilical cords plug lock, It'd still stay in fine but be easy to unplug.
