Roxul as cab sound-absorbing material?

Sign in to disble this ad
I did a search for "Roxul" and didn't come up with anything directly related to this: I was wondering what this stuff's like for lining the inside of a 35-year-old bass cab that came from the factory with completely bare walls (and boy can you hear it -- the midrange is awful). I know this would be sort of "off label" use for Roxul, but I thought I'd ask anyway.

Thanks in advance.

I'd tend to not recommend rockwool for dampening material...that stuff is designed to be installed and left alone....under movement [cabinet shlepping, air movement during playing, etc.] it will shed fibers, which may make their way into places they oughtn't be, like driver spiders, etc. In the old days they used fiberglass insulation which is another slow moving disaster IMHO.

I'd stick to the poly batting or foam products which either shed very little or create harmless stuff if they do.

That's wool insulation? Use mattress topper/pad from walmart or wherever. The 1-1/2" stuff works great and it's cheap.

It would probably work OK, but likely no better than the usual materials employed.
