Run a 700RB-II as preamp?

Will it hurt anything if I run my 700RB-II amp without anything plugged into the back? (Speaker cables unplugged too) and use the XLR output for recording? Or will I have to buy an RBP2001 pre?

From the 700RB-II owner's manual:

"No damage will result from operating the amplifier with the speakers
disconnected."

I've done this in the past with a 700RB-II that I owned. There was no room for me to have a cab with me, and they had run out of DIs, so I ran my signal through my amp and into the board (monitoring via in-ears). Worked pretty well, and nothing happened to the amp (at least, when I owned it... no idea where it ended up now).

I've done it on more than one occasion when I couldn't use a cab on stage and needed to go in ear. It has always worked fine (better than a simple DI box cause you still have tone tweeking possibilities).

No it shouldn't hurt the amp at all. Using a solid state or a Hybrid
amp (SS w/ tube preamp) without a speaker load is usually not an issue. It's only a issue with an all tube amp. There are always exceptions so your best bet is to contact GK directly but I'm sure its no problem.

Or read the owners manual like Rafael did.
