Question running extra amp thru effects loop?

Sign in to disble this ad
Is it possible to run an extra amp with a speaker hooked up thru my main amp effects loop? (effects send to amp input jack- amp output to effects return) If so, would I have control of the EQ settings of each amp? Just a thought........

NO!

You could very easily destroy both amplifiers.

Nay, you WOULD destroy both amps.

Amp 1 effects send -> input of amp two.

Thats all you need to do. Plugging an amp output into a "effects return" is more or less pumping that speaker loop of that amp with high amounts of current. DO NOT DO.

you mean you want to send the pre amp of your bass head to another PA amp with another speaker plugged into the PA amp and in addition using the bass amp right?

Yes you can do that if the PA amp has parallel inputs to send back to the return on the bass head. Other wise you would have to use a splitter which would drop the level a little but would work. Effects send on the bass head is post pre amp line level which can feed a PA amp, the same as it feeds the power amp of your bass head.

bass head pre amp out (send) to a 1/4 "Y" adapter. 1/4 instrument cable out of one side of Y back into return of bass amp head. Other 1/4 out of Y cable to input of PA amp. Plug output of PA amp to another speaker.

Then you have to balance the volumes using your master and volume on PA amp. Depending on your amp schematics your EQ may or may not effect what goes out the send. Depends on if your EQ section is pre effects send or post effects send.

Some heads even have a SLAVE jack which is to feed line level to other amps and do exactly this.

Just to be clear..........Amp head one hooked up to a speaker cab, effects send from amp one to the effects return of amp two. Amp two hooked up to second (or more) speaker cabs. Amp one's tone contols affect amp two and the volume of amp two adjusts the SECOND set of cabs HOOKED UP TO AMP TWO.
NEVER run the speaker outs of any amp into another amp!
