S2010 Basslite in a sealed box

Sign in to disble this ad
A while ago I came across a thread about someone wanting a small sealed enclosure and someone else suggested a S2010 in a 1 cubic foot sealed box.
I've been searching for this thread to re-read it for any info which will help me in my latest project but have come up with nothing.
A friend and I built a sealed enclosure a few years back in hopes to use it for a PA solution until we could get a hold of a real PA setup. We got as far as the 5 walls and bracing and gave up, and I'm considering making a baffle and loading it with 2, S2010's. The box is roughly 2.4 cubic feet, so 1.2' per driver and I don't know how much more than the optimum 1 cubic foot I can stretch it.
I would plug some numbers into WinISD but my computer is in the shop until Friday.
So does anyone have experience with S2010's in a sealed box that can help me out?

S2010 is OK in 1.2 cu ft sealed, but below 100Hz will run on average 3dB lower in sensitivity than if vented, with fully 10dB less displacement limited output at 50Hz.

Thanks for the reply Bill.

Those numbers are very close to the figures I came up with a few weeks ago when I was considering partitioning the box to a 1.8 cubic foot sealed chamber and using a Basslite S2012, then a mid in the remaining chamber.

I suppose it comes down to whether a want a 2x10 or a 1x12.

IMO it comes down to why you want to use a sealed box. If you've got the skills to run WinISD Alpha Pro then you should be able to see why a sealed cab has no inherent advantage over a vented cab. Quite the reverse, in fact. Yes, there are high Q drivers that work as good as they can work in a sealed box rather than vented, but that's a product of the driver, not the cab.
