I run a sans amp with a mark bass f1 head and 8x10 ampeg cab.
Just wondering if anyone out there is still using sans amps whilst playing live and if they have had any sort of trouble by running the sans as well.

I Run a Sans amp rbi as my preamp and run through the effects loop return on my head using it as a power amp. Works fine and has better sound sculpting than the preamp of the head I have.

What kind of trouble are you having? I've been using a SABDDI w/ a LMII for the past few years w/ absolutely no problem - in fact the BDDI has become an indispensable part of my tone. I got an RBI for my studio as well . . .

I used to run one almost exclusively. But like Brando, I ran it into a line-level input, never into an instrument-level input. Also found that it worked best with cabs that didn't roll off the bass and didn't have mid-bass peaks; the bass control seems to add lots more upper bass and low mids than it does true bass. May be a liability or an asset with an SVT cab, depending on several factors.

Are you talking about tone settings, or reliability, or noise, or levels, or ???

Tried an RBI and found the tone too synthetic for me, I do have the VT bass which I much prefer, but the ampeg tone is not really what I am after at the moment... each to their own i guess

one thing which I did find helped with the RBI was turning the blend down to at least 50% brings back some of the tone of your bass, but as a preamp I found the knobs were centered at all the wrong frequencies for me. As a distortion/overdrive module however I actually kinda like it

I run the SABDDI all the time in front of my Ashdown ABM 500. It's my secret sound weapon.

I use a VT Deluxe with my Ampegs, tube or not. With them it's a splitter for my electric and upright, plus I have a couple different overdrives so I can have it and not get fired for turning up an SVT too loud. But when I'm playing clean tones I turn it off, and if I don't bring the upright, I generally leave it at home.

I use a SansAmp BDDI as both an effect and a DI. I turn it on for a specific sound with a bit more grit than my usual sound is, and turn it off for most songs. It's the last thing in my signal chain whether I use the big pedal board with effects (octave, compressor, envelope filter) or the small board with just a tuner and the BDDI. It goes from the BDDI into the instrument input of my Eden WT-400. Right now almost all of the knobs are set right about noon- "blend" is about 11:00 and "Drive" is about 3:00 (and that's quite a high setting for me).

There's a severe mid dip with it if you crank the bass and treble controls too much which I despise.

I have the BDDI & VT. With the BDDI I use the blend knob between noon & 3. I keep the tone around noon and drive & presence around 1 o'cock. As long as you don't go crazy with pegging the knobs they sound great. I've found the blend knob can be the key.

I take my VTbass to practice to use for a DI out (don't bring my amp anymore). But for gigs I'm just running my shuttle 6.0 with a little extra gain. Sound guys love it and it sounds great with the P bass, so I'm not using any pedals right now.

I run the sansamp in my pedal board. it helps eq back the lows that my fuzz pedal takes out. So I still have that full bassy fuzz sound. Its great

I've ran mostly SansAmp RBI (still do) and combinations of RBI/RPM daisy chained together for the last several years. Always sounds great in a mix, but I love the Ampeg sound. I understand it's not everyone's bag though. As others said, the Blend knob setting is always critical. Plus I run a 5-band parametric EQ right after the RBI to have control of frequencies that the Bass, Mid, Treble knobs on the RBI don't cover & it allows me to bring a bunch of mids back into the sound when I'm really leaning on the Blend knob. These two units go directly into a QSC power amp. I'm always very happy with my live tone. No problems with any SansAmp unit I've owned - ever.

Sansamp BDDI into Markbass CMD 121P with an extra 12" extension cab. No problems, sounds great.
