SansAmp Tech 21 Bass Drive DI..

This may be posted in the wrong area - if so please advise where it would need to be posted, Thank you.

My question is, can I use the SansAmp Bass Driver DI Box with their #DC2 110V AC power supply to power a small cabinet? When I say small, I'm thinking 2x10". I am looking to get rid of my current amp (Peavey TNT-130) for something that is more managable and portable (that thing is like carrying a sack of concrete). To be completely honest, i know very little about Amps / Cabinets, the engineering and specifications behind them, and so forth. All i know is that the TNT-130 is way to big to lug around to practices and small gigs. Your input and education is greatly appreciated.

PS: If anyone can suggest a decent quality Combo Unit for under $500 that is portable and pack's a good punch, I would be open to suggestions. Thanks.

No, but you can run the BDDI as a preamp paired with a power amp to run a 2x10.

Exactly.

You could look into a lightweight power amp, such as the Crown XLS Drivecore series.

+1, missing the poweramp from the equation. The Sansamp will make for a good preamp though.

+1 to what the guys above said. You need a power amp and the cabinet. The sansamp is the preamp, which will shape your tone.

You can pick up a poweramp and a cabinet, OR, depending on your budget, you can always opt for the GK MB210 lightweight combo.

My current setup is the programmable sansamp direct into the MB210 combo. Lightweight, 350 watts, and I can carry it with 1 hand.

Crate Power Block. Discontinued but can be found second hand. Electro Harmonix has something called the 44 Magnum which is a 44 watt power amp in a pedal box. No idea how it sounds and if it's gonna be loud enough though.

Philter, how do you like the tonal variations you can get in comparison to the eq on the MB210? I've been debating on whether or not to invest in one of the sansamp programmables myself.

I'd like to get a little more of a tube grit while dialing out some of the highs. Is that a possibility with that pairing?

I use a 210. It has plenty of tone. I keep my 118 cab and make a stack out of it as needed (not often). I go from bass to pedal board which includes the SanAmp and them into the effects loop on my GK 400 which makes all my preamp tones come from the SansAmp.

I'd like to buy a rack tube amp and run my SanAmp into it and lose the GK amp completely.. It's only money!
