So I was down at the local watering hole and there was this classic metal style band there playing, pretty good group. Anyways, the band was made up of four teenagers and I saw the bass player was using some Marshall head that didn't look familiar to me. So I approached him after the show and asked him about his rig and he said it was a JCM-600 guitar head, going into two Kustom 410s, (he had put Marshall logos on them to match the rest of the band) had a pretty cool looking "custom" squire P-Bass too. I just said oh cool. I wanna know if it's safe for that kid to be playing a guitar head with a bass? I can still contact this kid through his bands Facebook page to warn him if I need too. Sorry for the long post but I just wanna know.

As long as the cabs are in fact bass cabs and not guitar cabs, tis fine.

The EQ on the head would certainly adhere to different frequencies, but as said above it should work just fine.

I would think that headroom would be awfully limited as I've never seen a guitar head over 150w... But if the sound is righteous the sound is righteous!

I believe Lemmy uses guitar heads does he not?

I've been playing guitar out of bass amps for years and might not ever go back. Got to love that room.

But with what Jelwood said, I'd definitely be more worried about the cab than the head. Perhaps his tone would gel better with the metal act if his bass were amplified just like the guitars.

The only way to damage the head is running it into the wrong load. It doesn't care what instrument it amplifies.

Yo dude, that was me!!! Yea don't worry about it. It's fine, I've been playing with that rig for a while. I've actually been looking for a new rig recently. Glad you liked the show. Thanks for your concern

I used an Ampeg V4 for many years - I swear they are better bass amps than V4B's. But I'm all about old MIA GK's and my new Markbass these days... <5 lbs? C'MON!

I had a JCM600 2x12 combo for guitar use. It was not a very loud amp (as far as 2xEL34 Marshalls go). I'd think it would be a bit underpowered for bass use. What were the guitarists using?

Marshall Valvestate 100 with Marshall 1960 A, and a Marshall JCM2000 with JCM900 cab. My rig is mixed into the PA pretty good.

This may not be to far from the truth. Ive noticed on alot of music forums the bass boards are not nearly as active as the guitar board, yet when you look at TB, there are TONS of people here. I really seems like all the bass players post on here and not anywhere else really.
