SBX 410 Speakers

Sign in to disble this ad
How do I find replacement speakers for my SBX410? I looked at the online store and didn't see any #'s that match the driver I pulled from the cabinet. Also, It appears GK switched to a different driver at some point because I have two SBX 410 cabs with different looking speakers but the same stamp (part #) on them? Does anyone have any info on this they could share?

You compare the T/S specs and SPL response charts. Trouble is no cab manufacturer will give them to you. One official reason is that the specs are 'proprietary, but anyone with $150 worth of testing gear and the skill to use it can measure them in less than five minutes. Another given reason is to prevent reverse engineering their product, but there again doing so takes that same five minutes for anyone who really wants to do so.
A skeptic might say that they just want to force you to buy replacement drivers from them instead of other less expensive sources. Not that I'm a skeptic, of course.

In any event unless you find someone who does know their specs you're pretty much forced to buy them from the manufacturer. Someone there should be able to help you.

Thanks Bill. I actually sent an email to the parts dept.
at G-K and will call as soon as they open today. I believe
Eminence has been making the speakers for G-K but won't sell them to the public, only to G-K.

My other question, to anyone from G-K on this forum or anyone who may know is "Did they switch 10" drivers at some point during the production of the SBX 410 line of enclosure?" The speakers are clearly different.
Another interesting tid bit I learned when I dissected both of my cabs is that one is made from 7-ply material and the other appears to be some sort of pressboard or OSB.

mine are both ply, do you have the sbx+ or the sbx, the + is 800watts at 8ohm and the regular sbx is 400watts at 8ohms. might explain the difference perhaps. I have the +

Actually they are both just the SBX cabs - 400 watt 8ohms.

I thought that was pretty strange that they would make them differently.

Well, I received an answer from the parts dept. at G-K. Seems they want to sell me the exact speaker that is isued in the BLX line of enclosures. Very disappointing. I've heard the BLX line and to be honest - The SBX blows it away. I can't believe their resolution is an inferior product to replace the the driver that came with the SBX line. The one they want to sell me is rated for only 60HZ as opposed to the speaker that came in the original cabs which was rated for sub-40HZ. Not very happy at this point.

Well GK is only going to sell you what they have.
The SBX has been out of production for some time now.

I hear ya - I'm just surprised thay wouldn't offer a speaker from the RBX line. Aren't these supposed the be the next generation SBX? I'm in a real bind if this speaker doesn't look like the others in the cabinet. As I stated, my other SBX has speakers stamped with the same number but look completely different. If this replacement doesn't match the others , what do I do? Buy 3 more and hope this cab sounds the same? At that point, I might as well invest in a new cabinet and try to sell this one.

I wouldn't count on either rating being accurate. Besides, at least half the speakers capability depends on the enclosure as much as the drivers inside of it.
G-K fairly recently started making their own drivers, probably the older ones were Eminence and they can't sell them to you because they don't use them anymore. It may be possible to identify the drivers you have from a rear-view picture. Being OEM grade they probably weren't anything all that special anyway, Alpha 10 and Beta 10 equivalents are what's usually used.
