SBX with RBH drivers???

Sign in to disble this ad
Is it possible to put RBH speakers (or NEO for that matter) in my SBX 410 (400w) cabinet? I would like to convert it to an 800w cabinet. I have a blown speaker and can't get the actual replacement (not available anymore) and since I need to replace 1 speaker, I figured to do them all and upgrade at the same time.

Any thoughts?

Nothing wrong with that, do keep in mind though that the RBH speakers are designed for the RBH cab and the SBX speakers are designed for the SBX cab. Same for the neos. The point is that while it would work, you're taking a gamble on how it would sound.

I've got the same cab as Slap5string and am curious as well as to how this might work. That SBX cab is pretty heavy - neo's would be a great upgrade....

...OK - spoke with Lany at GK and here is her response:

"The only speaker we carry that will physically fit into your cabinet and will change the unit’s power to 800 watts is noted below. We cannot give you any information regarding the tone, as this has not been tested in our factory.

P# 082-0470-A (SPK, 10", 200W,32 OHM,NEO,60HZ)

$139.99 each plus shipping

You may order the speakers from our GK Online Store. Thank you."

So it appears GK recommends a NEO speaker, NOT the RBH speaker.

The boxes are very similar in size, but you would need to port the sbx cab. I wouldn't buy gk speakers. Look at some eminence speakers that work well in about a foot a piece.

If it were me, I'd re-cone the blown spkr and call it a day. If that cab was not handling the volume you require, I'd suggest using 2 cabs instaead of 1 cab with a higher thermal limit. Essentially, just because a speaker is rated for a higher wattage, does NOT mean it will actually go louder. If 1 4x10 isn't enough, you need 2.
