Schroeder 1210 Pro LTD with what amp?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm turning to the wealth of knowledge on TB.

I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a Schroeder 1210 Pro Ltd but I have a problem. I've never actually heard one in person. By all accounts on TB, it is exactly the cab I'm looking for.

My question is this: What amp do I drive it with? The bass I'll be using most with it is a Lakland 44-02 Deluxe w/Bartolinis and D'Addario Chromes flatwound strings. I don't slap and play mostly rock. Really loud rock.

So I've narrowed it down to the Mesa Carbine m6, a Genz Benz GBE750, or a Sansamp RBI through a QSC or Crown amp.

Has anyone actually played any of these amps through a Schro? I know it's pretty specific but I'd like hear if someone has at least tried something similar.

I'll have to admit that I'm leaning towards the Carbine. For no reason at all

I haven't heard a 1210 Pro, but I have owned a 1210R and a 1212R.

My experience with them indicates that they need an amp that is very full, warm and deep in the lows.

After that, its just a matter of personal taste. If you can, try to demo the cab before you buy.

I've never played the 1210, but have owned 1212 and 15+. My 02. is to go with an M9, not because I have and love one, but because it's graphic eq and preshape settings should allow you to balance the inherent mid-forward character of Schro cabs. I would not go with an M6 that lacks the graphic eq. It's got a lot of high end and it might be a bit much with that cab IMO. FWIW the Markbass LM heads also match well with Jorg's cabs (check the Schroeder club thread). Enjoy.

Thanks for the tips guys. Ideally, I would like to test drive one, but the nearest dealer is a 3.5 hour drive (one way). So I can't really pop out and do that. It's pretty much a one day commitment. I'm just trying to do some homework for now.

Schroeder 1210 Pro Ltd.

I've used the 1210 Pro Ltd. as my main cabinet for about 7 months now. It is a KILLER cab! I use it with either a Thunderfunk 750A or Mark Bass LMII head. The cabinet really puts out what you put into it so it sounds very different with these heads. With the TF it is very warm and punchy & with the LMII it is super articulate, crisp. I prefer the LMII in noisy clubs where the bass can get muddy and kind of lost. This head keeps everything clearer and focused. In better sounding rooms or gigs with good PA support I use the TF. It's got the best DI around and it makes the cab sound fat, dark & lovely. Note: This cab needs to be broken in!!! It didn't sound as good when I first got it as it does now so be patient. As Jorg will tell you, the drivers need to be loosened up. When that has happened the cab becomes warmer more focused and really really really good sounding!!!

P.S.

With all due respect to the other TBers who have posted here: I also own a 1212L, 1210R, and a mini 10+. The 1210 Pro Ltd. sounds NOTHING like these other Schroeders! The rep Shroeders have for being very mid heavy, focused, a little lacking in pretty sparkly sheen (which is not necessarily a bad thing, depends on what you're looking for) is not the case with this cab. While it is certainly NOT hifi sounding it is much more so than the other cabs mentioned. However, Jorg has done a great job of keeping the sound of this cab from being in the "sounds great at home but gets lost on stage" category. It has plenty on pleasant, useable mid presence.
