Schroeder 1212 - ok vertical?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm running a Markbass SD800 through a Schroeder 1212 and a Markbass NY121. Sounds great. I've been setting up the Schroeder on its side with the MB cab on top for a vertical stack. This puts the MB cab higher and closer to my ear so it's easier for me to hear. I know the Schroeder cab was meant to be used horizontally instead of vertically. Any reason I shouldn't use it vertically?

Thanks

I use a 1212L vertically all the time, for whatever reason it sounds best(on stage) with the HF driver on the bottom as well. I've been tempted to take the rubber feet off of mine.

Maybe we should add rubber feet to the side! ;-)

I've been using the horn on the top. Maybe time to change that up.

My only reason initially for having the horn on the bottom is to persuade myself not to roll too many highs off on the gigs where I know I need the horn. I've found that even on gigs where I have the horn off it sounds less "constipated" when your standing a few feet in front of it with the front-mounted 12 on top, mainly on lower volume gigs. The small box is a love/hate thing for me.

It will be better vertically. It was marketed horizontally, but that doesn't mean squat. Every speaker performs better vertically.

I used a 1210 vertically. It works best with the fold on the bottom, as the floor will act as an extension of the LF horn and make it work better for low frequencies. I've tried it both ways. Look at his 1515+L for another example. (Might be my next cab.)

I never liked my 1212 vertically. I thought it got a nasal mid-forward thing that I didn't really dig.

Nowadays I'm not using it though...my keyboard player is. He seems to love it vertically, especially with a Motion Sound Pro-3 on top of it.

Sounds like most people like it vertical and it works for me.
