Finally got to gig with the Schroeder 1212BMF picked up here in GFS. Wedding gig, 6 piece group, medium sized room, 200-250 people. The 1212 did great. I was using my Mpulse 600 and no PA support and my 79 MM Sabre. I was a little concerned about the famous Schroeder mid voicing and perhaps not being able to get enough low, but it was not a problem. I had plenty of low end.
I can honestly say that for the first time in a long time, I had excellent cut through, and didn't feel like I had to be overpowering. I was very pleased with my onstage tone and the singer, walking around the room a couple times during the gig, said it sounded great out front. I had plenty of headroom. Didn't touch my tone controls all night. As an aside, I used the rig, given it's lightness and portability, during the cocktail hour in the hotel's lobby for our jazz trio and it sounded great with the NS WAV4 electric upright bass as well.
Now, a couple warts, too. The metal grill is poorly designed IMO. It rattled and buzzed like a SOB when I first got it. IMO there are just too many screws in the front grill into the plywood front (10 total I think). And almost half of them are "stripped" where you can't really tighten them any more and they freely turn. Even after moving the screws a couple "gill holes" over and screwing them into virgin spots on the plywood facade, I still had terrible grill rattling. A trip to Ace, and 10 metal washers and 4 additional rubber spacers strategically placed later, I was able to eliminate the grill rattling, but it concerns me it may come back. Second, the handles are nice, but they are not straight; they are slightly cockeyed, almost like they were eyeballed and not measured. Minor though and does not affect being able to grab them..
Overall, very happy with the cab.

| | | I like these BMF cabs with the right head. You have the perfect yin yang... the MPulse600, that quite frankly, is a bit bloomy and tubby down low, and the very tight, mid punchy Schroe BMF (that again is a much more even voicing than the original baffle cabs).
However.... Jorg has been known to get a bit sloppy with the manufacturing. For what those cabs cost, I would call him and get a replacement that is perfect. He is VERY good about this. Handles crooked, grills rattling... that's not right, and Jorg is capable of doing it right.
Seriously, if you dig the cab, email Jorg. My guess is, you will have a new cab on the way before you even get around to shipping yours back. |

Perhaps iof the grill loosens up again. The handles are no big deal. The cab is replacing my Low B2 and B4 Acmes and I never in a million years thought I'd say that. Really voiced nicely and a breeze to haul. |
