Schroeder 610 Question

Sign in to disble this ad
OK, so I've read up here on Schroeder cabs, and I have a question. Are they REALLY all that heavy in the mids? Isn't it something I can just EQ around? 'Cause I tell you man, I'm digging the whole size/weight aspect of the Schroeder 610. I don't really have the means to haul an 810 around, and from what I've heard, the 610 KILLS in volume.

In fact, I find myself having to dial in more mids all the time on almost every amp/cab setup that I play through. I'd rather be at the point where I have more than enough mids and I'm dialing back, if that makes any sense.

If the Schro cabs are heavily voiced in the low-mids, that might be an issue for me. I found Markbass stuff like that, and I really didn't like it. Took too much tweaking around to get a sound I like, and I never really got there.

Anyways, I ask this because I have no way of trying out a Schroeder cab where I live. That is, unless someone can tell me about a place in the greater NYC area.

I'm planning on picking up an SVT 7 Pro as well in the near future. I could just imagine pairing that with the Schroeder 610 . . .

Thanks.

I gigged a Schroeder 610L for more than three years. We all hear things, and describe things, differently so keep in mind that my ears tend to be off compared to many on this board.

I think the 610L was fairly evenly voiced, at least there was no low mid hump. I found it to be very mid-mid heavy (400-600hz or so), and there was a boxy quality to the mids that was hard to eq away IMO. I don't think that cab has any lining at all, which may explain that. It handled everything I throwed at it, no sweat. Loud as heck.

Probably too small box for 6 10s, and besides being loud it kind of defeats the purpose of Schroeder cabs somewhat, ie small, light and loud.

Never had a problem with it, very light for a 6x10. I sold it mainly to get an even lighter cab, and I missed something in the mids. Not that there wasn't enough mids, but there is a certain calmness (is that a word?) I like that just wasn't there IMO.

Jorg S. was great, excellent communication.

Great cab for loud, agressive tone!

I like the form factor of that 610L but it's curious that there is no lining inside to absorb reflected mids. I'll bet just adding a 1" layer of proper dampening material would smooth the mids and reduce that boxy sound while still retaining lots of presence in the mix - a low cost and worthwhile improvement. Some of the newer GK cabs also lack internal dampening.

Indeed, that is disappointing at that price point. I was considering adding some lining to mine, but ended up selling it instead.

My only experience is with my Schroeder 1212L which indeed is very mid-heavy. It sounds pretty unattractive on it's own but sits so well in the mix which is what they are designed to do I believe.

I lined my 1212BMF with white batting and it tamed the boxiness quite a bit. totally worth doing in my opinion. I was surprised there was no insulation is my cab.
