For $233! Anybody have one? How do you like it? Why did you buy it? What do you play it out of? |

I bought them because they are rock solid & VERY reliable, I haven't so much as had to replace a fuse on either one. Also I was able to get them both for great prices and I feel they give off a rather cool vintage tone.
I play mine through a Sunn 215B but have also used an Ampeg 410HLF in the past. They sounded great through both.
Lately I've realized I can plug into the back "power amp in" jack and defeat the preamp and just use my VT Bass in place of it.
You gotta good deal, hope you enjoy it.

I liked my old CB head back in the day - it doesn't compare to newer heads feature/sound wise, but at the time - in the '70s, it really was the gold standard for medium power solid state amps. I made very good use of mine, way back when (I ran it into a Sunn 412LH cab and it *roared*)

Although it really doesn't compare "apples to apples", it doesn't mean it's better or worse.
Wouldn't you agree?
Some think newer is better, that old gear is somehow inferior, and some wouldn't play new gear even if it were free.
Tone is in the ear of the beholder, and the free market decides what vintage gear is worth; period. |

It had a lot of hissy background noise and never seemed to sound that good. I should qualify this by saying that I only used it in my basement and many times these big speaker cabs don't come to life until you get them in a big room. I wasn't playing in a band at the time so I sold it. IIRC I paid $150 for the head and cab. The guy was also selling a Mustang bass for $50 with a case that I turned down.

Rick B. | One of mine has the hissing problem. I assume its a problem with the Preamp b/c when I plug in the back and defeat it, it sounds great.

| | | | I used one back in the early 80's through a Peavey 18FH cabinet, turn the bright switch to "on" and put the distortion controle on 1. Great sounding amp. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
