Hi,
I'm fairly new here.
What a great resource this is!
I'm trying to find out what kind of speakers Ampeg used in their pro cabinets in the late 90's, before the chinese production started. I've been told they were called just Ampeg pro speakers with an Ampeg label on them, but what brand were they? Someone also mentioned the same kind of speakers were used in the Eden cabs during that time.
I just love that sound. Accurate, loud and solid. A good friend of mine has a selfmade 2x10" cab with 2 ampeg pro speakers and it sounds so good. He knows a lot about ampeg, but couldn't tell me what the brand of his speakers are. Did Ampeg made these their own? I've been tempted to buy just 2 Eminence Legend bp102 speakers for the cab I'd like to build, but I fear that they won't deliver me that true pounding bass sound.
I'm sure there must be someone around here who knows more about this... |

My friend uses an Eden Traveller in combination with the his 210 cab and sounds truely astonishing! |

Its solid state and about 20 years old. I read reviews about this head being a proto-type for the 4PRO. It is 200watts per channel but it has no trouble powering an 810E or a 410HLF. Maybe you can luck out and find a head similar to this one from the 90's.... |

These discussions were rather in-depth, included pictures, model numbers of different speakers and opinions from the more knowledgeable people on TB regarding AMPEG tone.
Try searching for these threads, don't stop until you find them, they were all from this year or started maybe fall of 09 and ended this year.
Also AMPEG TONE, the two main components of the sound are the PREAMP and the CAB. The amps can be totally transparent if you have the other two items working like they should.
