SED prices?

Sign in to disble this ad
Okay it's been over a year since I retubed my Mesa but what the heck. =C= SED 6550 prices are through the roof. The only 6550's that I see that are more expensive are NOS tubes.
Really? Whats the deal? Are they out of production now?

They went up sometime over the summer I believe. There was a lull in availability then prices went up and they were all back on the shelves. Funny that they all seemed to disappear when ampeg was finishing up the heritage line of SVTs. How many did they make? a few hundred? At six 6550s each? Sounds like increased demand to me...

It's just crazy when I compare EH 6550 prices to SED 6550. I simply cant budget $400 to retube an amp ($340 of tubes plus amp tech of $60).
At that price I can almost surely retube on cheaper tubes for half as much, then spend the diff on something like a pedal.
