Selecting Extension Cab for GK MB210

Sign in to disble this ad
This is kind of a follow up to another thread I started. Right now I can't find a used GK 210MBE, and the new ones go for $299.99.
After research, I see I can get a new cab with 2 10s for half that price. Since I would be mixing products (GK and non-GK), is there a certain brand out there that I might have the better chance of getting compatibility between the amp and cab. Thanks again guys! So much knowledge in this forum! The info I've learned in here is priceless!!

I also own the GK MB210 combo. The major constraint against running other brands of speaker cab is that you need a minimum 8 ohm load from the extension cab. If you've found another brand cab with an 8 ohm load that can handle the wattage, you should be OK.

From what I understand, the amp runs at 350W with no extension and 500W with extension. To be honest, I was never quite sure whether that means I need a speaker cab capable of 500W, or whether 400 or even less would do. I will make room for the experts, but I'm subscribed to this one!

Any 8 ohm cab rated for 250 watts or more will work.

The most efficient, best sounding thing you could possibly do is find another 8 ohm 2x10 cab and stack them vertically (not side by side).

I just picked up my new MB210 yesterday. I paired it with a Mesa 115 for last nights gig. The results were pretty damn good! My bandmates actually liked the tone better than my Aguilar AG500 and GS410 rig. I have to say that I was pretty pleased myself. There's an Ampeg 210 cab for sale locally on Craigslist for cheap, I may just pick it up and see how well it pairs with the GK.

I was really pleased with the 210-115 pairing though. Glad I made the move and finally got one of these lightweight monsters.

Another of the same cab is always the best bet. It means your sound will be the same, just louder. Anything other than that is hit or miss.

I don't know what 210 you can get brand new for $150 but I'd be suspect of it's quality. There's just not enough wiggle room there to use any kind of decent components and make a profit.

I had someone in another thread suggest Seismic. Any thoughts and would prefer anyone that has actually owned or used one.

You should wait until you can afford to get a GK 210MBE.
